With regards to the extra battery, it would only void the warranty if the battery caused the damage to the camera - in over six years of selling Hahnel and Energizer batteries, we've never had a battery that has caused any damage to a camera. This is because they all have a built-in microprocessor which safeguards the batteries by limiting maximum voltage and protects against deep discharge, short circuit and overload. It is possible to buy much cheaper batteries from the Far East on eBay which don't have these microprocessors but we've heard many reports of these batteries causing problems, such as leaking or even exploding! So my advice is stick to trusted battery brands such as Hahnel and Energier and you won't have a problem. In the extremely unlikely event that you did, we would replace the camera for you anyway.
